We are offended and appalled that the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs has used an antisemitic attack on our city as an excuse to hurl baseless accusations at a peaceful movement of Palestinians, Jews, and their allies. There is absolutely no evidence that connects the Davis Cup protests to this incident. Indeed, the graffitied symbols and statements are hallmarks of far-right nationalists and have never been seen or heard at pro-Palestine rallies in Halifax or elsewhere. We call on CIJA to apologize and revoke their statement while we await the results of a police investigation.

We also note with fury that while CIJA denounced peaceful Davis Cup protestors as “extremists,” they did not comment on the white nationalist rally that also took place in Halifax on Saturday. It was, in fact, Davis Cup protestors who peacefully confronted the white nationalists and caused them to disperse. The pro-Palestine movement has shown time and again its commitment to defending the rights and dignity of all marginalized people.

IJV Halifax continues to be a proud member of the movement for Palestinian liberation.

Here are 3 short videos from this weekend's protests in Halifax against Team Israel in Davis Cup tennis. A coalition of community groups, including Independent Jewish Voices - Halifax, succeeded in a) getting the matches to shut down audience participation, b) getting the City of Halifax and the Nova Scotia government to rescind their financial contributions to the tournament, c) getting excellent media coverage across the country. All in all, a big victory.
